چکیده

The majority of existing analyses on synchronization errors consider only partial synchronization error factors. In contrast, this work simultaneously analyzes joint effects of major synchronization errors, including the symbol time offset (STO), carrier frequency offset (CFO), and sampling clock frequency offset (SCFO) of orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) systems in doubly-selective fading channels. Those errors are generally coexisting so that the combined error will seriously degrade the performance of an OFDM receiver by introducing intercarrier interference (ICI) and intersymbol interference (ISI). To assist the design of OFDM receivers, we formulate the theoretical signal-to-interference-and-noise ratio (SINR) due to the combined error effect. As such, by knowing the required SINR of a specific application, all combinations of allowable errors can be derived, and cost-effective algorithms can be easily characterized. By doing so, it is unnecessary to run the time-consuming Monte Carlo simulations, commonly adopted by many conventional designs of synchronization algorithms, in order to know those combined error effects.

Blind CFO Estimation for OFDM/OQAM Systems Over Doubly-Selective Fading Channels

Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing based on Offset Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (OFDM/OQAM) systems are highly sensitive to Carrier Frequency Offset (CFO), especially in doubly selective fading channels. In this paper, by modeling the doubly selective channel with Basis Expansion Model (BEM), we prove the cyclostationarity of the received OFDM/OQAM signal in the presence of CFO. A bl...

ML Time Synchronization Algorithm Joint with Channel Estimation for MIMO-OFDM Systems in Frequency Selective Fading Channel

This paper addresses Maximum-Likelihood (ML) time synchronization algorithm joint with channel estimation for MIMO-OFDM systems in frequency selective fading channels. For this purpose a SISO joint Maximum likelihood (ML) synchronization algorithm with channel estimation is extended and generalised to MIMO systems. Timing failure probability is presented as a criterion to illustrate the robustn...

Bit Error Rate Calculation for OFDM with Synchronization Errors in Time and Frequency Selective Fading Channels

In this paper we present an analytical approach to evaluate the bit error rate (BER) of OFDM systems subject to carrier frequency offset (CFO) and channel estimation error in Rayleigh flat fading as well as in time and frequency selective fading channels. Based on correct modeling of the correlation between channel estimates and received signals with carrier frequency offset, the bit error rate...

Single-Carrier Frequency-Domain Equalization for Orthogonal STBC over Frequency-Selective MIMO-PLC channels

In this paper we propose a new space diversity scheme for broadband PLC systems using orthogonal space-time block coding (OSTBC) transmission combined with single-carrier frequency-domain equalization (SC-FDE). To apply this diversity technique to PLC channels, we first propose a new technique for combining SC-FDE with OSTBCs applicable to all dispersive multipath channels impaired by impulsive...
